our family life, our way

We have a water tank!

on September 9, 2014

The kids and I stopped by the block today on our way home from our after school errands.

We have a water tank!

We also have the request for the next progress payment. The fixout stage. The second last one. That means (obviously) that completion is getting closer! We are 12 weeks into a contracted maximum 28 week build. That means that the house needs to be completed within 28 weeks of their starting date, which was 17 June. Week 28 ends 30 December.

They look to be powering along and we are expecting (?) that they finish ahead of schedule. Particularly as we have really only lost two days due to wet weather. If it rains now, they are at the stage they can keep on working because they will be inside. And we would really like to be in before Christmas.

Anyone who has built, can you remember how long it took from the fixout progress payment to completion on your house? We’d like to see how reasonable our expectation of an early finish is. We just can’t see it taking another 16 weeks to put together the inside of our house. Do you think we could hope for as early as late November?

I still haven’t had a chance to ring the carpet company. Working every weekday with errands to run or after school activities for the kid to transport them to and from means that making phone calls during business hours just doesn’t happen. I find emailing so much easier – I can do it at 10:30 at night, just like I am typing this at 10:30 at night. So Ray has taken on the job of contacting the carpet company. We are happy to go with the carpet we chose when we called in unannounced at their showroom way back in March. Unless it’s no longer available. In which case we will make that appointment for when we are passing by in a couple of weeks. But we need to get onto it if the house is going to be finished soon. I don’t want us to be the reason for any delays.
