our family life, our way

More about the house again

on September 2, 2014

On a day that saw sunshine, rain and hail, I dared to venture up to our block. A little work has been done today, which must have been first thing, before the clouds decided to release their innards.

We are not happy with what looks like a patched up front door, an attempt to cover up the damage. I am yet to speak to our site supervisor, so will ask him about it when I do.

The workers attached a piece that looks quite unusual to the decorative bit above the front door. There’s a technical term right there. This is the start of the rest of the front entrance and porch. If you go to this link (I tried to make it a live link but it wouldn’t work, so you’ll have to cut and paste it, sorry)

and look up the Colonial facade, you will see what our house is meant to look like on completion. Except that we have eaves and our colours are not the same, although close. You’ll see the front porch that I am waiting to be built.

Here’s what our house looks like today.

2. The beginnings of a decorative feature. I’ll call it Angus – a little bit fancy.

3. The front door, patched up and turned 180 degrees. This was taken from outside the construction fence and from a distance the marks look like dirt, which is not surprising with all the mud around the place. We paid for a new door, not a repaired one.

On the plus side, the bank finally made the progress payment today. I looked up when each one is due and it won’t be long before they will be asking for the next one. It’s meant to be once the walls and doors are hung.

Back with more when there’s more to show. Hopefully I will have an update from our site supervisor by then.

Karen.
