Site Manager Meeting and Brick Delivery

on July 17, 2014

I met with our site manager today.  He seems like a nice enough chap. He’s there to make sure our house gets built properly and promptly. He lives locally, which means it’s easy to tee up a meeting with him if we would like one. He’ll be giving us weekly (ish) phone calls to explain where they are up to and what’s happening next. And we are to ring him with any questions. Sounds good to me.

He had me sign some paperwork for Workplace Health and Safety purposes, which was the standard stuff about it being a workplace and that we have to follow their rules in relation to access. We are only allowed within the construction fence if we organise it with him and he has to be there too, We aren’t allowed to have any other contractors work on the house whilst Metricon are still in possession of it. We are allowed to build a shed though, as that is outside the construction fence. Not that I think we will get to it before we move into the house. That involves submitting a development application to council and stuff.

Today some of our bricks were delivered. There are more to come. The plan is for the frames to be finished tomorrow (if the rain holds off) and the brick layers to start on Monday. It will take all of next week and part of the following week to finish the laying the bricks and installing the windows. By then Peter will have called us with our update. He estimates it will only be a couple of weeks until the gyprocking starts, but prior to that he will show us around the inside so we can check it all out. Because it’s an interesting stage to have a look at and because after that the build will look to be going really slowly as we won’t be able to see all the internal stuff happening. But it will be happening.

Here are today’s pics.

3. We have bricks! And that big frame I was wondering about is for our sliding door off the dining room. It’s a three panel, which is why the frame is so big.

And that’s what I have for today.

Back with more when there is more.
